Welcome to Greenwood Psychotherapy & Consulting

Sharon McGee MSW, LCSW (she, her)

It’s okay to not be okay. Struggling with your mental health can feel overwhelming, and reaching out for help takes courage. Changing old patterns and leaning on support can feel scary, and a good first step is finding a therapist who feels like the right fit.

Therapy works best when you can trust the person sitting across from you. My work is grounded in emotional safety and empathy, because feeling seen, heard, and validated by another person is often where healing begins. I also bring a sense of humor to therapy, because laughter and joy are healing too.

As a trauma therapist in Raleigh, NC, I work best with clients who experienced childhood or developmental trauma and learned to cope by becoming people pleasers: keeping the peace, avoiding conflict, and putting everyone else’s needs first. If this helped you feel safe and continues to help you feel safe, I believe I would be a good fit for you. Together, we build a foundation in boundary setting, emotional regulation, self-compassion, and communicating your needs and wants, so you can begin taking up space in your own life. From there, trauma therapy can help heal patterns you’ve carried for a long time and open the door to the relationships and life you’ve been longing for.

My approach draws primarily on Somatic and Attachment Focused Eye Movement Desensitization and Reprocessing (SAFE EMDR) and Internal Family Systems (IFS), sometimes called parts work. I also draw on Cognitive Behavioral Therapy (CBT), Dialectical Behavior Therapy (DBT), Acceptance and Commitment Therapy (ACT), and Emotionally Focused Therapy (EFT).

Outside the office, I love spending time with family, friends, and my dogs, Gunner and Finn. I enjoy listening to music, reading, movies, and traveling, especially to New Orleans and Charleston.

I see clients at our Raleigh office and through telehealth throughout North Carolina. If you feel I might be a good fit, please reach out. I look forward to hearing from you.
